Tuesday in India: Why Should You Watch This? That's Right, You Shouldn't

The summer heat is kicking in.

No wonder soft drink ads are pouring like an avalanche.

Last week we saw sensous ad for Tropicana.

This week has nothing to shout about.

I know celebrity endorsement in India is a killer but just having Priyanka Chopra stand and drink Appy fizz would have been much better than this chaotic nonsense.

Another ad for the famous Limca is a minor disappointment as well.

This type of overused comedy ads are not funny anymore. Neither to my Indian friends whom I tested nor to a friend's dog who loves refreshing drinks.

Now that we’ve seen this ad, let's start again, Limca?

Tuesday in India: Somewhere Coca-Cola Bottle Caps Are As Good As Money

Coca-Cola and me. No love lost.

And while I might hate their drink, I admire their marketing.

This time again: natural brilliance.

Coca-Cola had set up phone booths (as a part of “Hello Happiness” campaign) for South Asian workers all over Dubai so they were able to call back home more often.

What makes those booths special is that they accept Coca-Cola bottle caps as currency instead of coins.

 Pretty cool.

P.S. Just wondering how much is Coca-Cola bottle in Dubai? As workers are kind of forced to buy bottles to make calls. Precious money is still spent...

Tuesday In India: How Coke Connected India With Pakistan Just For A Moment

India and Pakistan.

I could write a book on their relationship and stories I've heard during my residence there.

It's pretty tensed, in short.

That's why when I was visiting India in March 2013, I was filled with contentment to hear a few stories on Coca Cola's initiative to break down the barrier and unite two nations just for a moment of fun, joy and closeness.

The key of this campaign, created by Leo Burnett Chicago and Sydney, was to engage Indian and Pakistani people in mutual light tasks such as touching hands, drawing peace, love, and happiness symbols, dancing - all done together, connected through a Coke machine.

Of course it didn't change the world but it made the day brighter for quite a few people.

Thumbs up!?
